Jonathan Brooks’ short film “Ghostboy” played to rave reviews at the Family/Animation Short Film Festival in August 2016. An animation with a twist of unique comedy and a valuable life lesson. It’s safe to say that Jonathan is an filmmaker and storyteller on the rise.
Matthew Toffolo: What motivated you to make this film?
Jonathan Brooks: I had written a poem whilst at college called Ghostboy. It was far darker in tone but the character I had was interesting enough to keep it in mind for the future. It wasn’t until I met a local stop-motion animator at a film festival for another film of mine that we discussed future projects. It was 10 years since I had written the Ghostboy poem and felt that this was the best chance to develop it into a short film and expand on the character.
